Historic Architectural Home Combines Luxury Living With Serene Seclusion In Beverly Hills

Location: Beverly Hills, California

Price: $19.999 million

Surrounded by a wall of trees, this sprawling California residence offers eye-catching architecture with resort-like seclusion in the center of Beverly Hills.

“It literally feels like you’re in a resort, but you’re only a two minute drive from the [heart of] Beverly Hills,” described listing agent Adi Perez of The Agency.

Built in 1924, the residence was later remodeled by famed mid-century architect William S. Beckett, who designed Charleston Heston’s longtime residence. In 2015 the house underwent a sensitive overhaul, which aimed to update the property for the 21st century. The result is a home that pays as much homage to the past as it does to the present.

“The house has that energy and charm that you don’t get in other houses. You can’t repeat it again,” Mr. Perez said of the residence’s unique architectural design.

Resting on nearly one acre of property, the residence spans 12,000 square feet of interior space.

Inside, the history of the house is evoked with unique personal touches that recall the lives of its former owners. Mr. Perez noted that in addition to a “1950s wine cellar”, the residence includes an “original safe from the 1920s” and “signatures of [previous] owners throughout the house.

These touches cohabit with a modern interior that is both minimalist and dramatic. Here, recessed lighting illuminates the polished white floors supporting towering white walls, which intentionally contrast with the gray stone found on the opposite walls. Another elongated wall, meanwhile, is made up of thousands of vertical pieces of wood, which warm the interior with an impressionistic painting of natural textures and tawny tones.

This penchant for pattern carries over to the exterior of the house, where a repeated zig-zag of grass winds through the polished patio tiles. Nearby, an infinity pool rests in the shade of thick trees.

Amazed by the architectural history of the house and its ideal location, Mr. Perez concluded simply: “It is so unique.

Resting on nearly one hectare of land, the sprawling house in beverly hills spans 12,000 square feet of interior space and features a total of seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Another 1,500 square feet is added with outdoor space.

The residence includes many amenities, including a heated swimming pool, a single-storey wine cellar, a state-of-the-art cinema room, a solarium, a gym, a salon, a massage parlour, a candy wall, a Crestron smart home system and a six-car garage.
