Authorities inaugurate construction of new JICA-funded building for Siem Reap Provincial Hospital


Siem Reap Provincial Hospital has started the construction of its new building which was constructed with the help of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The inauguration ceremony was held on December 7 in the presence of the Director of Siem Reap Provincial Health Department, Dr. Kros Sarath, and the Chief Representative of JICA Cambodia Office, Kamei Haruko.

The site is located at the Siem Reap provincial referral hospital. The building will have an area of ​​approximately 7,260 square meters. it will also have a capacity of 212 beds and will be equipped for outpatient treatment, emergencies and surgery.

The new building is funded by a grant from JICA under the “Siem Reap Provincial Hospital and Provincial Referral Hospital Improvement Project”.

According to the JICA press release, the goal of the project is to improve the quality of health services at Siem Reap Provincial Hospital and four other district referral hospitals. The project involves the construction of new buildings and the supply of medical equipment.

The agreement on this grant financing project was signed in October 2020 between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Kingdom of Cambodia and JICA. The grants are worth approx. $ 18.95 million.

In addition to the construction of the building, funds will also go to the acquisition of medical equipment including: X-ray and ultrasound equipment, as well as equipment for the room. The fund will also be used to provide medical supplies to four other district hospitals.
